Apple remarkably expands Product (RED) lineup, reportedly adds new ways to contribute to World AIDS Day cause
Thursday is World AIDS Day, a day in which people from around the globe unite in the fight against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), show support for those living with HIV and remember those that have lost their lives because of it.
Apple for the last decade has participated in Product (RED), an initiative that helps raise awareness and funds from the private sector to eradicate HIV / AIDS in Africa. Since 2006, the Cupertino-based company has contributed nearly $120 million of the total $360 million (RED) has raised to date, making them the world’s largest corporate contributor to the Global Fund.
This year is no different as Apple is stepping up to the plate and offering a variety of ways for consumers to help join the fight.
In addition to the current (RED) lineup that’s available year-round, Apple has added four new items to the collection: an iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case, an iPhone SE Case, a Beats Pill+ Portable Speaker and Beats Solo 3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones.
Apple also notes that 100 percent of the
proceeds from The Killers’ holiday album, Don’t Waste Your Wishes, that’s
available exclusively on iTunes will go to the Global Fund. While on iTunes,
shoppers in the US can pick up a free copy of The Lazarus Effect, a documentary
that details the (RED) mission.
What’s more, 20
of the top games in the App Store are offering limited-edition, custom (RED)
content over the coming week.
Participating
apps include Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds POP!, Best Fiends, Best Fiends Forever,
Boom Beach, Candy Crush Jelly Saga, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, CSR2,
Episode, Farm Heroes Saga, FarmVille: Tropic Escape, FIFA Mobile, Hay Day,
MARVEL Contest of Champions, PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator, Plants vs. Zombies
Heroes, SimCity BuildIt, War Dragons and YAHTZEE With Buddies. All proceeds
from the associated in-app purchases will also go to the Global Fund.
From December 1 through December 7,
Apple will donate $1 to (RED) for every purchase made using Apple Pay on
Apple’s website, at a retail Apple Store or through the Apple Store app, up to
$1 million. Furthermore, Bank of
America said it will also make a
donation for every Apple Pay transaction using its cards, also up to $1
million.

you prefer to donate directly to (RED), you can do so through iTunes or on the website,
On December 1,
Apple will turn its iconic logo red (or feature (RED) window decals) at more
than 400 of its retail locations around the world and have staff on hand to
explain the various ways customers can support the cause.
Apple is just
one of many well-known companies and brands that have partnered with (RED). Others include Salesforce,
Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Gap, Mophie, AOL, Google, Twitter, Belvedere Vodka and
Snapchat, just to name a few.
